The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado has already pulled down a major award with its 6.2-liter V8 engine earning a spot on the 2019 Wards 10 Best Engines list. With Dynamic Fuel Management technology, the 6.2-liter V8 delivers exceptional power without sacrificing efficiency with 17 different cylinder patterns to optimize performance in all driving situations.
“General Motors’ thundering 420-horsepower V8 in the Silverado exemplifies how engineers continue to find ways to improve efficiency without giving up something in return. DFM determines 80 times per second exactly how many cylinders require fuel to meet power demands. And, incredibly, it uses as few as two cylinders to propel the full-size pickup down the highway,” writes Senior Content Director Drew Winter. “The truly amazing part is the cylinder deactivation is imperceptible, so seamless that the only thing the driver notices is fewer stops at the pump.”
The 420-horsepower 6.2-liter V8 is the most powerful gas V8 engine in the segment, and it’s just one of five unique engine offerings in the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado Lineup. The available 5.3-liter V8 also features Dynamic Fuel Management, and a late-availability 3.0-liter Duramax® Turbo Diesel promises to deliver top-of-its-class diesel capabilities.
The new Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is the most advanced and impressive Silverado ever built, and not just because of its deep engine lineup. Featuring Durabed, which offers best-in-class cargo bed width and length and up to 20 percent more cargo volume than the competition, the Silverado is the next chapter in Chevrolet’s 100-year truck legacy.
All new light-duty Silverado models will offer myChevrolet® trailering app capability, which offers convenient features like pre-departure step-by-step towing guides, trailer light testing, and more directly in the app.
Advanced Trailering System
The Advanced Trailering System is meant to make towing an easier process and offers multiple smart systems to do so. The system includes Auto Parking Brake Assist, which helps keep your truck and trailer hitch aligned, Hitch Guidance with Hitch View, which adds an additional line to your Rear Vision Camera system and helps you get your hitch in the right position, and an optional Trailer Tire Pressure Monitoring System, which automatically monitors the tire pressure and temperature of your trailer tires.
Trailer Camera Package
To help maximize your visibility while trailering, the all-new Trailer Camera Package includes the standard Rear Vision Camera along with two side view cameras on the side view mirrors. You can also add a fourth camera to mount on your trailer for even greater visibility.

A brand new versatile 2.7-liter turbocharged engine, replacing the outgoing 4.3-liter V6, gives a huge boost to the torque, giving the Silverado 1500 similar payload capacity to and higher torque than competitors from Ford and Ram. The new engine is also lighter than the previous one by 380 pounds, adding to its exceptional fuel economy, which is already stellar thanks to the gas-saving turbocharger.
Dynamic Fuel Management
The new Silverado 1500 will also boast Dynamic Fuel Management, an industry-first feature that saves gas by deactivating some cylinders when they aren’t needed for heavy tow and haul loads or rough terrain.
With 17 different modes of cylinder deactivation, the Silverado 1500 effortlessly adapts to driving conditions to give you the smoothest, most powerful ride possible when you need it, and unmatched fuel economy when you don’t. But because the system is torque-based, there’s no difference in the feeling of power between the four-cylinder and eight-cylinder modes.
For drivers who love the Chevy Silverado HD, you may be excited to hear that the brand recently announced that an all-new 2019 Silverado HD will be added to the lineup. This is the third all-new truck that Chevy has announced over an 18-month period, and the latest truck will join the 2019 Silverado 1500 and the 2019 Silverado 4500/5500/6500HD.
What We Know
Although we don’t have all the details about the next-generation Silverado HD, there are a few things we do know. For example, Chevy says that the newest HD will be tailored for truck owners who want heavy-duty power and have specific priorities. In other words, we may expect some special packages and trims that cater to particular consumer needs.
The Silverado HD will also likely borrow technologies and design cues from the latest lineup of trucks to be released. For instance, the 2019 Silverado 1500 uses mixed materials to cut weight by 450 pounds, and the Silverado 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD are specifically built for commercial customers.
Words From Chevrolet
“Chevrolet already fuels the most successful truck manufacturer in the industry,” said Alan Batey, global head of Chevrolet. “With a completely new, expanded range of Silverado models on the horizon, we expect to see even more truck buyers in Chevrolet showrooms.”
The upcoming Silverado HD is expected to roll off the assembly line in the third quarter of 2019. To learn more about our current Silverado lineup, visit us at Bill Roberts Chevrolet.
