What Are Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles?

Used cars are a great way to save big on buying your next vehicle, but the downside is that buying used comes with its own set of risks. When you find that perfect used car at a low price, you might be worried if it’s too good to be true, with a host of undetectable mechanical failures waiting under the surface. You can bypass these concerns by purchasing certified pre-owned vehicles instead of used ones. Certified pre-owned, or CPO, programs are run by auto manufacturers so customers have access to more reliable previously-loved cars.

Take Chevy, for example. Chevrolet requires all vehicles used in their CPO program to be less than six years old and to have less than 75,000 miles on the odometer. In addition, customers get benefits like a warranty, a schedule maintenance plan that covers two visits, a free Vehicle History Report, and more. The way it works is that Chevy takes a used vehicle that’s been given back to the dealership and subjects it to a 172-point inspection. If the vehicle passes the tests, it gets certified.

We have a whole host of certified pre-owned vehicles on our lot here at Bill Roberts Chevrolet. If you want an option for buying a new ride that is affordable and reliable, opt for Chevrolet’s CPO program.

2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE Blitzes Nürburgring Lap Record

The standard Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 set a Nürburgring record, but the brand wanted to kick it up a notch with the new Camaro ZL1 1LE. When equipped with the 1LE package, the ZL1 gets all kinds of performance upgrades that make it a natural on the racetrack. In June, Chevy teased enthusiasts with a short video of the track, hinting that that Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE had set a new Nürburgring lap record. A few days later, the brand followed it up with a video confirming that, yes, the ZL1 1LE did just that.

Chevrolet unveiled a video of the 2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE taking the ‘Ring by storm, tearing up the track and eventually finishing with a new record lap time of 7 minutes and 16.04 seconds. That’s over 13 seconds faster than its predecessor! The lightweight model with the 1LE package includes tweaks to its design to make it more aerodynamic as well as a 650-hp V8 engine mated to a six-speed manual – a contrast to the Camaro ZL1’s ten-speed automatic.

If you want to watch the 2018 Camaro ZL1 1LE set a Nürburgring lap record, the video is available online. You can also call us here at Bill Roberts Chevrolet if you want more information on driving the Camaro ZL1 equipped with the 1LE package.

Tips for Travelling with Pets This Summer

For more and more people, travelling with the whole family usually includes pets. Whether you’re taking a cross-country road trip or simply taking your furry family member to the dog park, there are some important things to keep in mind. Here are some essential tips for travelling with pets; from providing fresh water to proper safety, you should follow these if driving with an animal.

The DMV has a list of helpful tips and solutions, especially for the summer—when most people go on vacation with pets. The first and most important tip is to avoid letting your pet stick their head out the window. As much fun as Fido is having, this can be especially dangerous. Debris may strike your animal, heavy airflow can hurt the pet’s respiratory system, and some animals even escape when they spot another dog, cat, or squirrel.

Not all dogs love to be tied down, but it’s essential to purchase the right restraints. As much as you want your pet to sit on your lap, this can be a serious distraction. There are several carriers and special seatbelts now available on the market that keep pets safe, especially in an accident. When selecting restraints, look for ones that strap into your car securely, have comfortable bottoms, and include spill-free water dishes.

You can also buy dog gates and guards for bigger dogs, which fit in the back of your Chevy Traverse, Tahoe, Suburban, Equinox, or other crossover SUV. It’s not recommended that you let your dog sit in the back of a truck, as thousands die each year from road debris and from falling out.

Finally, take breaks at least every two hours and never leave your dog locked in a vehicle. Much like small children, hot temperatures can be fatal. Even if you roll down the window, temperatures can soar as much as 20 degrees higher inside than the outside temperature. When driving, it’s also important to stop every two hours for bathroom breaks, fresh water, and a stroll. This will prevent accidents—even if your pet isn’t prone to them.

New Lightweight Equinox Design Cuts 400 Pounds

The Equinox is all-new for the 2018 model year, which means it has a stronger, lightweight body, safer driving technologies, and added performance systems. That’s not to mention the sporty new look for this compact crossover, offering LED lighting and a bold front end that’s bound to turn some heads.

One of the most innovative aspects of the Equinox is readily apparent at first glance. The 2018 model comes with a 400-pound weight reductions—about 10% of its mass—thanks to new engineering strategies. This weight loss improves handling and performance, including driving dynamics, and it also works to save you money at the pump. With less weight to haul around, your driving experience can only get better.

“Think of it as core strength training,” said Jill Dennis, lead development engineer. “The new Equinox’s structure is leaner yet stronger, resulting in efficient performance that inspires confidence while also creating a more fun, safe and comfortable driving experience.”

How did Chevy do it? Engineers have been working with a mixed-material strategy that reduces weight without cutting strength as well. This includes a high-grade steel body that’s supplemented by over 20% of a high-strength steel material offered almost exclusively to Chevy. The lightweight Equinox design is also being used on the Malibu, Bolt EV, and Traverse for the latest model year. Experience these changes by test driving the Equinox at Bill Roberts Chevy today.

The Beautiful Chevrolet Bolt

Energy-Saving Chevrolet Bolt

The super-efficient 2017 Chevrolet Bolt isn’t even available throughout the entire country yet, but according to reports, drivers have already covered more than 4.5 million miles with their Chevy Bolt vehicles, which adds up to some serious savings.

Gasoline Savings

This means that Chevy Bolt drivers have saved an estimated 175,000 gallons of gasoline, compared to 4.5 million miles driven in a standard, gasoline-powered vehicle that gets 26 miles per gallon, an average-to-good rate.

Vehicle Range

Of course, the Chevrolet Bolt is entirely electric, able to travel up to 238 miles on a full charge without running out of power. That’s way more than an average driver uses in a single day, meaning most drivers never run out of power.

Availability

By this summer, the 2017 Chevy Bolt is scheduled to be available nationwide—as opposed to now, when less than ten states have the vehicle for sale. And if Bolt drivers have already saved so much gasoline, think about how much will be saved by this time next year!

Keep Your Car Cool This Summer

Spring is officially upon us, with summer rapidly approaching, and you know what that means. Your car is about to get super hot – especially when your return to it after a long day in a parking lot.

Tips

Try to keep the temperature down this year by following these tips to keep your car cool.

  • First and foremost, always try to park indoors, in a parking garage, or at least under a tree. The shade will make an enormous difference.
  • Get yourself a quality sunshade, and if you ever have to park your vehicle in the sun, be sure to prop it up.
  • If you feel comfortable doing so, keep your windows slightly cracked for some air ventilation.
  • Throw blankets or towels over anything that you don’t want to get burning hot, like the steering wheel, seat belt buckles, or back seats.
  • If you’ve just returned to your car and know it’s going to be uncomfortably warm, open the doors and wait for a few moments. Don’t force yourself to suffer!

How to Spring Clean Your Vehicle

This time of year, we often think of spring cleaning by organizing a cluttered closet or washing the dusty drapes. But what about your car? Making time to spring clean your vehicle can be a great way to get a like-new driving experience you’ll enjoy well into the fall. Here are some helpful tips compiled by our cleanliness experts at Bill Roberts Chevrolet.

Exterior

During the winter, road salt and other debris can build up under your car or on the sides. This grime eventually causes corrosion. Make your first spring cleaning task a stop at a car wash with a pressure washer so you can clean off that grime.

Interior

Start by using a towel to remove dirt and dust from the surfaces of your vehicle’s interior. A foam art brush from your local craft store works well to get into tight spaces. Next, use a shop vac to vacuum up debris and dust from your upholstery and floors. Afterward, you can take your floor mats and throw them in the washing machine while you use a damp towel to wash down your seats.

Windows

It’s important to keep windows clean for optimum visibility. Wash both the insides and outsides of your windows with glass cleaner. Spring is also a great time to replace your wiper blades for clean, streak-free windshield wiping.

Three Ways to Celebrate Earth Day

Every day we should work harder to become more conscientious of our planet. It needs our care, and Earth Day is a great reminder of that. At Bill Roberts Chevrolet, we like to celebrate Earth Day through ways that will continue beyond this one spring weekend. Here are some of our favorite celebrations.

Create Greener Driving

Earth Day is a great day to ride your bike to work or the grocery store. However, we know that this transportation isn’t always practical. So instead, learn how you can make your vehicle more efficient. Clear our clutter so your engine works less, get regular maintenance for optimum efficiency, and create a habit of driving in a way that uses the least amount of gas possible.

Start a Garden

Make it your goal this Earth Day to plant some herbs or vegetables. You can start small, and watch your food grow. It’s a good feeling to be in control of your own resources, and with some time you can grow a garden that’s big enough to provide fresh fruits and vegetables regularly.

Learn How to Compost

Composting is a great way to reduce waste and feed your garden, and Earth Day is the perfect nudge to get you going. The internet is full of tips for first-time composters that will have you going in no time.

Celebrate Spring with These Fun Activities

Spring officially begins on March 20th. Here at Bill Roberts Chevrolet in Missouri, that means warmer temperatures, sunnier days, and beautiful colors blooming everywhere you look. If you’re ready to kick winter to the curb, here are five ways you can celebrate spring.

Celebrate Spring

Have a Family Reunion

In Japan, they celebrate the Vernal Equinox with family gatherings and by visiting the graves of loved ones.

Visit Ancient Sites

Monuments like Stonehenge in England and others were built by ancient civilizations to align with the sun during events like the Equinox. This would be an ideal time to visit this iconic location.

Learn the Story Behind the Easter Bunny

The Easter bunny’s roots trace back to a Saxon tale about the goddess Eostre. In the story, she found an injured bird and transformed into a rabbit to save its life. However, the transformation was not complete and the rabbit continued to lay eggs, which it then decorated as gifts for Eostre.

Take a Trip to Mexico

If you visit the El Castillo pyramid on the spring equinox, you can watch the Shadow Snake descend down the pyramid with the setting sun.

Take care of the Earth

Take some time to beautify the world around you. Clean up trash or do some planting.

What will you be doing to celebrate spring?

Daytona 500 Pace Car Camaro ZL1 Driven by Jeff Gordon

The Daytona 500 is one of the most popular races in NASCAR and is often considered the most prestigious, too. The most recent Daytona 500 just happened on February 26th. There were a few new rules this year, which had an impact on the pace of the race. In addition, the race was filled with accidents. In fact, of the 40 contenders that started the race, only 25 finished.

The Race

Kurt Busch came away from the accident-filled race the winner after leading only one lap—the last one. This was Busch’s first time racing in the Daytona 500.

While a Chevrolet didn’t win, there were three Chevy drivers in the top 10, including AJ Allmendinger in third, Paul Mendard in fifth, and Kasey Kahne in seventh.

The Pace Car

Driving the Daytona 500 pace car at the start of the race was NASCAR legend Jeff Gordon. He was driving a Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. The special pace car featured a Silver Ice Metallic exterior color, a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine, and unique Daytona 500 graphics.

“Chevrolet and I have a great history at the Daytona 500 and it’s an honor to drive the 650-horsepower Camaro ZL1 pace car for the largest, most historic race of the season,” Gordon said.

While we can’t get you a spot in the Daytona 500, we can get you a seat in a Chevrolet Camaro. Stop by Bill Roberts Chevrolet today to see how you feel behind the wheel of a Camaro.
